Though it really isn't that weird in the post-WW2 era. There's a reason Japan, West Germany, and South Korea aren't all States in the USA.

I will point that Germany's borders are vastly different than what they were pre-1939. *Japan's borders are different from what they used to hold pre-WW2 as they used to hold both Korea and Taiwan. Finally, the United States didn't fight the South Koreans.
