"considering". So thoughts are crimes now? What are we living in 1984?

I'm waiting for the day where news outlets realize that the world would be a much better place if we stopped giving liars a platform.

Who claimed that China had committed a crime? US seems to be (has has been since the beginning of the Ukraine invasion) releasing a lot of intelligence about what Russia and her allies/potential allies are doing/thinking. Most of that has been right. The US telling the world that China is considering sending arms might create enough world pressure for them to decide not to.

UniversalMomentum t1_ja7kpe7 wrote

Well then China needs to stop giving mixed signals and purposely releasing disinformation!

Governments aren't people.

In the context of a government, "considering" implies meetings on the topic, long documents being written, decisions being prepared, etc.

Nobody is talking about thoughts in the head of individuals. Imagining ongoing processes within a government as thoughts is a categorical mistake.

So, they are going to send lethal aid then…

They also said that when the US claimed Russian invasion was imminent.

Russia isn't going to invade Ukraine, this is misinformation and the US is scaremongering the international community!

It's actually really funny because if China now does send "lethal aid" (aka weapons) US intelligence looks impressively accurate & if they don't The USA goes "great I didn't want you to send shit anyway."

Oh, I have no problem with China blabbering their mouths dry, they can talk all day and, if I see this right, they're probably doing that already.

The issue that I have is that every time some Chinese crybaby opens their mouth, the media drops everything to make sure that we ALL know that China has spoken again.

To spread nonsense into the world and insist on your right of free spech is exactly how these people reach and radicalise people into their senseless disputes and wars. What they say is irrelevant. If you want to gain a grasp on the modern political dancefloor then Chinese officials are exactly the kind of people you *do not* want to listen to, and news outlets are there to give the common people (that would be you and me) the opportunity to get a grasp on the political dancefloor. Just collect their nonsense into a big thread, slam a massive "disinformation" tag on it and make room for news that are actually important.

Well, unfortunately it is a bit more complicated than that because the next wannabe intellectual is gonna tell me that they (the Chinese) are doing the exact same; that them saying "what the US says is disinformation", is effectively exactly the kind of thing that I am proposing: to dismiss their stuff as disinformation.

„ The U.S. has been spreading disinformation about China supplying weapons to Russia and using the allegation to sanction Chinese enterprises,” Mao said, describing this as a “double standard and the very definition of hypocrisy.”

Only a double standard and hypocritical if you ignore the fact that Russia invaded Ukraine to begin with.

Must be exhausting to be a Chinese diplomat. Everyone knows you‘re playing stupid, you know you’re playing stupid, but you have to keep up the charade for the domestic audience and the CCP.

Of course. But what's meant with "considered" is not about thoughts of those individuals, it's about their actions within the government.

A decision in a government isn't reached by thinking a bit. There are many, many processes to be followed, reports to be written, meetings to be organized. In this context "considering" means, those are already happening, but no consensus has apparently been reached yet.

After all, nobody can look into people's heads. At least not in a way that lets you see thoughts.

Rallying Europe time and time again, effectively releasing / declassifying information, forcing nations like China and Iran to take public positions... It's like the US joined alcoholics anonymous, showed up at poker night sober for the first time ever, and no one has a clue what the fuck is going on.

After decades of supposed failure of American diplomacy with Russia, NK, and China, we're starting to see something very, very different.

Seems like the US needs an actual crisis, or it starts doing random shit like Iraq. The state department must be thrilled to not have to make up shit about WMDs.

The U.S. snd other Western intelligence agencies seem to be very good at what they do. They also called the Russian invasion of Ukraine when everyone else said that was propaganda. The strategy of releasing information on Russia's plans on the battlefield, forcing them to change strategies worked very well. I believe what they say about China. I also see why Trump was so scared of them.

See, this is what I meant when I said that it is a bit more complicated. You are right that it's not as simple as I would like it to be, saying that myself in my comment; however, both you and me don't truly have a grasp on how complex it really is.

It probably did come off a bit rough when I said "wannabe intellectual" because it may seem like I consider myself an "actual intellectual" trying to put down contradicting positions, but really it was meant to be an acknowledgement that we all aren't intellectuals. My position has never been more useful than the position of every other average internet user, but I still thought it was worth mentioning ^^

Can’t wait for the 100 page report from US intelligence detailing how the weapons are being hidden, transported, received. Satellite photos of shipments, what part of Ukraine they’re being used in etc.

For all it’s faults, US intelligence is rarely if ever wrong. If they say China is seriously considering it, than they are or were.
