This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 81%. (I'm a bot)

> The EU's joint presidents flew to last year's U.N. climate talks in Egypt aboard a private jet, according to data seen by POLITICO that revealed heavy use of private flights by European Council President Charles Michel.

> That means during the five-hour return flight to Sharm El-Sheikh, Michel and von der Leyen's jet may have emitted roughly 20 tons of CO2 - the average EU citizen emits around 7 tons over the course of a year.

> The decision to travel to Egypt by private jet was made after no commercial flights were available to return Michel to Brussels in time for duties at the European Parliament, his spokesperson Barend Leyts told POLITICO. Staff also explored the option of flying aboard Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo's plane, but it was scheduled to return before Michel's work at COP27 would be completed.

Well... If they have a busy schedule, that makes sense. Should they walk? And it wasn't like everyone took own jet it was ride-sharing.

This is dumb, private jet flights are the tiniest fraction of global emissions it's merely a red herring.

Maybe because many people dont own private jets , if you going to talk about fighting the climate change when your livestyle is way worse compared to the normal person why is he going say we need to change when he doesnt ? Just a noice hypocrisy

Turn off your phone if you’re worried that much about every little scrap of energy.

The only thing in the world you can change is yourself.

This is like the fucking 9gag posts that point out all the World Leaders flew to the Climate Conference.

So what ? This is just another part of "Solving climate change is YOUR responsibility, not the one of Industry".

Which it isnt. You can live as Green as possible, not own a Car, never fly, only eat grass and drink River water (i.e be poor) and BP will generate all the Co2 you would have created in your lifetime in 2 seconds.

This whole personal responsibility shit is blown way out of proportion.

Ah yes, this old nugget again.

Politicians flying private is not the problem this planet has. Is it somewhat tone deaf? Maybe. But pointing this out EVERY DAMN TIME is getting very old...
