It’s not really menacing when his army is being beat by Ukraine, though is it.

Show of strength? Bruh, this is just insecurity on a state level. It's the government equivalent of writing a Reddit post about how you're a sniper with over 400 confirmed kills.

> Russia has begun a giant training exercise on its intercontinental ballistic missile system with 3,000 soldiers, in a sinister show of military might.

> Vladimir Putin's forces are training on the Yars missile system, which can carry multiple nuclear warheads and can reportedly hit targets 7,500 miles away - with the US and Europe within range.

> Mr Putin has said he wants to make Yars, which replaced the previous Topol missile system, the centrepiece of Russia's ground-based nuclear warchest.

Aw that's cute. Meanwhile, nuclear war games involving NATO use TENS of thousands of soldiers. We can literally train more soldiers to be vaporized than Russia can come up with in the first place.

Putin every few days: What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little bitch? I'll have you know I graduated top of my class in KGB, and I've been involved in numerous secret raids on Pro-democratic activists, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I'm the top sniper in the entire Russian Armed Forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the World and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You're fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that's just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire nuclear arsenal of the Russian Federation and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little "clever" comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn't, you didn't, and now you're paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it. You're fucking dead, kiddo.

Turns out the convict meat shields were even too much of a liability for Wagner. Being "out of troops" doesn't mean you can't raise/train more, it just means that the current force you're deploying is no longer combat effective for any number of reasons. The winter operational pause was enough time for them to at least plug the gaps.

Problem is, if he wants to mobilize more conscripts, sooner or later he's going to have to start dipping into manpower from the Moscow region, which is where his political alliances are. They've been avoiding conscripting from those regions like the plague.

I did not think he would violate the agreement with China so soon after signing it, given that is one of the few agreements he can afford to violate now.

Really shows that any peace deal with Ukraine has with Russia has to be enforced militarily.

my20cworth t1_je4rgrc wrote

That's all he has now. Gone straight to using nuclear threats. He's running out of troops and weapons so it's in desperation that he threatens weapons of last resort. After 12 months the Russian Army has not been able to over run a smaller country and has been humiliated that if failed its invasion and had to retreat. Over 100,000 dead troops and thousands of pieces of hardware are gone. It will be upto the Russian Generals what's left of them, if they are willing to allow Putin to sacrifice Russia for some personal vendetta against the "immoral" West.

Training is a good idea.

It would be a shame if an accident happened in downtown Moscow because those troops didn't know what they were doing.

Even worse would be if the country Russia is at war with managed to sabotage or detonate one of those near the Kremlin.

So many people world wide would shed a tear for the one or two innocents who are more damaged by Putin's removal than by his continuing in power.
