Hopefully his luck with these publicity stunts runs out sooner rather than later.

>Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday inspected a training ground for mobilised troops, the latest in the Kremlin's attempts to dispel numerous accounts claiming reservists are being sent to the frontline of the Ukraine war without adequate equipment and training.

>The Russian leader was accompanied on the trip to Ryazan, southeast of Moscow, by Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu, who reported to him on how the men were being trained, the Kremlin said.

The video footage of Putin's hug was amusing. He allegedly asked if the soldier had a family, then hugged this one (!) soldier, pat him on the back, and then left like "I did my part, now it's none of my business.".

Denys Davydov, where I saw it from, commented Putin's words: "Good luck, come back in a plastic bag!". Then he showed the real equipment soldiers have. And also how the recruits cheer on the bus with vodka bottles in hand.

After Putin said "good luck" to the soldier, he should have said "you're gonna need it".

Putin left. They took all the weapons and equipment away. The trainer's have moved on to a new group after only a few inconsistent days of training.

That's nothing. Get back to me when he fires a rifle while shirtless on horseback. Then I'll be impressed.

How goes the war, Vlad?

Well he and Shoigu had to make a special trip and a video to counter the widespread rumours of poor and lacking equipment so that part's fixed at least.

> Russian and Ukrainian troops are preparing for a major battle over the strategic southern industrial port city of Kherson, the centre of one of four regions Russian President Vladimir Putin has illegally annexed and subjected to martial law.

> Putin declared martial law on the annexed regions of Kherson, Luhansk, Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions on Wednesday in an attempt to assert Russian authority there as he faced battlefield setbacks, a troubled troop mobilisation, increasing criticism at home and abroad, and international sanctions.

> The unsettled status of the illegally absorbed territory was especially visible in the Kherson region's capital, where Russian military officials have replaced Kremlin-installed civilian leaders as part of martial law that took effect Thursday to defend against a Ukrainian counteroffensive.

I would bet there were National Guard sharpshooters around to make sure no one got any ideas, especially after what happened at that other training area.

I could probably scrape together a decent looking kit just with the crap in my garage. I've got an AK, fancy mags, ammo, tac vest, winter gear. None of that means the guys at the front line have them...

Or more importantly... know how to utilize fireteam/squad/platoon/company level tactics. How to neutralize/block/suppress objectives; Or how to function as a team in any capacity.

It takes months if not years as part of a team to function at a cohesive and disciplined group. This is why before every deployment to a hostile zone, service members have 3-9months of predeployment training which consists of layered leadership aspects and scenarios. It also consists of multi domain engagements so that FO's can call in accurate strikes, Comm personnel can have accurate and assured encryption, infantry are trained on how to appropriately form armored vehicle screens, and (most importantly) to build trust and confidence in the people around you.

If you don't have a good team before the bullets start flying, you're not going to have a team for very long.

Of course you would. Especially if you had a wife, kids or other family that could be punished for your action. Really a trivial decision that an average redditor with a good life could make in a split second without a single doubt.
