Maybe I’m exposing my Americanness, but is there really a defined “heating season?” I adjust my heat or AC to whatever temp I need regardless of season. Asking outside the context of current events, obviously.

This mostly applies to people living in apartments with central heating (oil or gas) that is often switched off over the summer, say May to October.

Most houses in most countries of Europe starting heating season mid-October don’t have ACs

Some American cities have heating seasons too, like NYC. Landlords are required to have the heat on by now

This mostly has to do with when you decide to spin up district heating systems which serve tens of thousands using a highly efficient central plant.
