Erdogan is just filling his britches because he might actually lose an election, so he’s desperately appealing to nationalism, Islamism, and anything that might get him an extra vote.

Turkey has no future with him or the AKP.

Turkey’s agenda is to keep both masters happy - Russia and the EU for maximum concessions. They’re going to play a complicated game to ensure they’re seen “not to be holding up” the Nordic countries applications while also not allowing the spread of NATO to Russia’s borders…

Turkey already said they would approve Finland (but not Sweden). Finland is the country that borders Russia.

Finland will not accept joining into NATOwithout Sweden I believe. I think they mentioned it some time ago

Turkey has several times said they would approve Finland and has always lied and broken their promise. What Turkey says is utterly untrustworthy and meaningless. What is needed is actual approval instead of false promises and lies.

If Turkey approves Finland then they should make actual approval and submit it to NATO. All we see is more and more lies instead of actually doing anything.

I'm pretty sure Turkey has been clear from the beginning that the deal was NATO membership in exchange for handing over PKK leaders etc.

Not at all.

Before Finland even submitted application to NATO Turkey was asked if they would approve Finland and if they had any demands. Turkey said they would approve Finland.

Various fictional demands filled with lies have started after application was submitted. Sad thing is people in reddit are starting to believe in Turkey. They are not demanding any terrorists. They demand political opponents and people who have insulted Erdogan in facebook.

Can anyone name single terrorist Turkey has demanded from Finland?

Turkey doesn't have to approve either country's bids. This isn't about Erdogan, the Turkish public doesn't want Sweden approved and Nordic countries' safety is not our concern. Neither is NATO's since NATO doesn't seem to care about Turkey's safety concerns and just likes to bark orders.

If you think this is only about Erdogan, you'll be surprised with his replacements (if we can replace him in the next election). This is the will of the Turkish people and you have to show Turkey and Turkey's security needs respect.

>Can anyone name single terrorist Turkey has demanded from Finland?

No. Can you name any single terrorist from ISIS (without looking up)? Maybe they are given a list and haven't kept their end of the bargain yet. Both countries will show commitment with Turkey on issues like security and terrorism before Turkey will agree to approve because Turkey doesn't actually have to approve neither country.

If Turkey has no plans to approve Finland it should not have lied about it when asked before application to NATO was made. Before application Turkey promised to approve Finland and after application was made Turkey betrayed the promise. After that Turkey has several times promised to approve Finland and every single time betrayed promise. Turkey's word and promises are worthless.

Can you find name of single terrorist that Turkey has demanded from Finland? I don't expect you to know them without searching. I just expect that if issue was real someone would be able to find name of single terrorist that was demanded.

Why should I know names of terrorists that Turkey wants extradited from Sweden and Finland? They're probably not so high profile. How do you know your government isn't the one lying? How do you know Turkey didn't give them a list of names and are still waiting for Finland to keep its end of the bargain.

All we know is Erdogan spoke positive about Finland's application but not positive about Sweden's.

What bargain? I know of two bargains.

Before NATO application was made Finland asked Turkey if they would approve Finland to NATO and if they had any demands. Turkey told that they have no demands and that they would approve Finland. Turkey broke that bargain.

Then there is trilateral memorandum which states following about extradictions:

>Finland and Sweden will address Turkiye's pending deportation or extradition requests of terror suspects expeditiously and thoroughly, taking into account information, evidence and intelligence provided by Turkiye, and establish necessary bilateral legal frameworks to facilitate extradition and security cooperation with Turkiye, in accordance with the European Convention on Extradition.

Finland has addressed Turkey's deportation or extradition requests. Turkey hasn't provided any lists of terror suspects and evidence.

Why hasn't Turkey approved Finland? Why it is all talk and repeated broken promises?

How do you know Turkey hasn't provided lists of terror suspects and evidence? They don't have to do this publicly. In fact, they would do it quietly in order to prevent suspects to flee. Justice departments of each country would talk quietly between them.

>Why hasn't Turkey approved Finland?

It hasn't been voted in the parliament. It's election year and Erdogan has a lot of problems, mainly economic. It says Turkey will host key figures to talk with them.

If you read the article, it says:

>In June, Türkiye, Sweden and Finland struck a deal that included provisions on extraditions and sharing of information.

That was back in June. Maybe they haven't done it yet..

One country's "political opponents" is another country's "terrorists", yes. You admit they are naming names though so I'm not sure what your point it. Sounds like a stalemate that isn't going to be resolved to me.

Namell t1_iueip8m wrote

No.

Political opponents are not terrorists unless they commit terrorism. Someone saying Erdogan is idiot dictator is not terrorist.

As for naming people even that is very confusing. I believe some turkish officials have named some but other turkish officials have told that those people are not the people they want. I dont't think Turkey has ever given any official list of people they want.

That's not Turkey's problem. And going to war with Russia in order to protect Sweden is in no way Turkish people's interest.

You think Turkish people have no say in this. This is one of the subjects that Turkish people both voting for and against Erdogan are unified. Sweden isn't popular in Turkey for their decades long support and harboring of PKK members. Same can be said about US support of YPG in Syria.

Both countries have to show commitment to Turkey's security and terrorism issues before Turkey approves them.

Turkey supported Georgians and Ukraine's NATO application in 2008 (whilst European powers like Germany, France, Italy and co opposed it). Same with NATO applications with countries like N. Macedonia and others.

Turkey isn't trying to "keep both masters happy" because they don't have to. They do what's best in their national interest and security. If Sweden follows up on their promises, they will join. If not, they won't and Erdogan is the only politician in Turkey who would be ready to make such deal with Sweden.
