Oh look an article praising China for doing the same thing, while blasting America for it.

Lol did you even read the article? There's only one reference of China in the article and it's by a campaign coordinator of an environmentalist group. What she said kinda do makes sense though

From the article.

“It saddens me that the US continues to say pretty words but do bad things,” said Ribeiro. “Whenever there’s a conflict between making money and making a moral decision, we know what is going to win. That is where the US’s ability to produce beautiful narratives that hide the blood on their hands comes in.

“At least China doesn’t pretend that they are investing in Mozambique for any other reason than to make money. The US could at least be honest that this project will be terrible.”

Those countries need growth before they can care about the environment.

Good luck sustaining economic growth when you're facing famine and droughts every other year, as is already starting to be the case in the Sahel now and is likely to spread elsewhere if we don't all start caring about the environment. Africa (particularly sub saharan) will sadly be hit far harder by climate change than the US will.

They are already doomed nothing we can do will prevent said drought and famine, but economic growth can help them go through those crisis, unfortunately wishful thinking and nice speech at international meetings isn’t doing anything when you are hungry.

"Why can't we exploit natural resources to alleviate some human suffering?"

"Because we already used up humans limits for energy consumption. Stay poor bitches, its what's best for all of us."

This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 92%. (I'm a bot)

> He will be landing in a continent that the US continues to pour billions of dollars into for fossil fuel projects, with seemingly no end in sight despite the president's promises.

> The US government has funneled more than $9bn into oil and gas projects in Africa since it signed up to restrain global heating in the 2015 Paris climate agreement, a tally of official data shows, committing just $682m to clean energy developments such as wind and solar over the same period.

> It would be "Unfair" to prevent Africa exploiting its gas reserves, Macky Sall, Senegal's president, said in May. This stance has been treated warily by climate campaigners and the Biden administration with the International Energy Agency making clear that there can be no new fossil fuel development anywhere in the world if disastrous global heating is to be avoided.

Climate change is coming whether we like it or not. It's better for our continent to industrialize faster, so that we can deal with the effects better.

What are these “dirty” projects? Have you seen an open pit lithium mine for the manufacture of EV batteries? Talk about dirty.
