Splendid idea...on a more serious note, I start to hope that we will soon get the straw that breaks the camel's back: China's zero covid is a silly policy applied by zealots following a madman.

Back to cartoonish speculation though: what comes after zero covid policy? 100% covid policy by neighborhood?

Why not? That's what we have in the West

No, I mean forced covid by neighborhood. Come to this party and get coughed on, hope your vaccine worked

Edit: to be more clear, with a covid free policy there are a TON of people who are highly susceptible to covid. Additionally, the vaccines available in China are typically less effective at preventing infection and hospitalization than the mRNA vaccines largely used in the west. That means a huge proportion of their population is at risk, and lifting covid zero policies will overwhelm the country. It would be like when the pandemic just started, except the new variants are much, much more contagious.

So, on a very serious note, I don’t know how China can move past covid zero without some dystopian storyline.

Nah, Covid gives a 20% chance of getting long covid.

Post infection immunity lasts between 1 and 3 months .

Then with all the overlapping mutant variants going around the edge of vaccines, you could wreck your whole population and not get rid of Covid.
