Most people can’t afford BEVs today. What are they going to buy? This seems ill fated

They’re going to buy BEVs… because prices change with time, and this move tells automakers that they are about to need to address this new market of sub-20,000 euro vehicles. Cars are going to have to drop in price, because automakers aren’t going to want to miss out on this huge demographic.

I think they’ve been trying, but it doesn’t exist because BEV tech is still expensive. It requires rare earth metals and big battery packs that cost a lot to make. We’re pretty good at combustion tech and building a combustion engine is much cheeper. Without massive subsidies across the entire EU I struggle to see how this can be implemented.

The cheapest BEV today is $30k. That’s the Nissan Leaf at the lowest trim package. Maybe the industry can lower costs a little, but we would need a pretty big jump in tech by 2035.

The 2023 Chevy EUV is $27k, which is decently cheaper, and shows a general trend towards competent cars at cheaper prices.
