>armed formations of Ukraine destroyed civilians of Donbas".

Anyone can look on Ukrainian cities completely destroyed after few months or less and then look on Donbas cities after many years of so called "genocide" to see a difference that leads to quite obvious conclusions. No need to trust corrupted media of "evil west" - anyone can just use their own eyes.

Who'd fall for it..?

Diehard Russian fundamentalists. I also expect blind loyalty plays a part. If your country goes to war, you might support them regardless of reason purely because you are a citizen of said nation -- kinda like supporting a local football team.

Doesn't help when you're drip fed lies.

Not that bad, somewhat correlates with that famous bell shaped curve with average folks being the majority and two outlier groups of very smart and not so much. Though its more of an anecdote evidence for me, the reality is more complex than that.

I was mostly thinking about people outside the russia. My friend from Germany mentioned about higher numbers of putriots in east Germany compared to west part. They are no longer under russian direct influence, for a while at this point, same goes for their quality of life.. and yet there we are. Still odd to me.

Same goes for Israel, plenty of exUSSR folks I know were proputin.. Eventually I had to break with few family members because of it.
