>S. Korea is on a roll with a string of bad news in recent days.

I think it's just Reddit only highlighting the 'bad'. But what are these? I can think of:

Itaewon crowd crush, North Korean missiles, and now this... What did I miss? Oh... low birth rate records getting smashed?

(But, 2022 has been a 'good' year for South Korea too particularly in their defense / space industry. E.g. Indigenous 4.5 generation fighter jet successful maiden flight, huge export deals for tanks / howitzers / artilleries / weapons to Australia, Poland and others, successful launch of their indigenous space rocket carrying over a ton of payload (or was this 2021), successfully getting a satellite to orbit the moon just TODAY (https://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/tech/2022/12/133_342563.html) etc. And we haven't covered the cultural successes / K-pop stars / groups becoming the first Asian winners for music awards / setting new records blah blah)

I wish I can share the optimism you have about current state of Korea. All the good things that you listed above have been going on for last several years and I sure hope they continue, but imho Korea is going down fast, real fast. I only wish I am being needlessly pessimistic but to me it's Trump all over again in Korea (US was big enough to "recover" from T but S. Korea is definitely not)
