One way to not lose land in a war is to not start a war for land.

This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 73%. (I'm a bot)

> The Palestinians on Saturday welcomed a vote by the United Nations General Assembly requesting that the International Court of Justice provide an opinion on the legal consequences of Israel's occupation of the Palestinian territories.

> Israel captured the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem - areas the Palestinians want for a state - in a 1967 war.

> Senior Palestinian official Hussein al-Sheikh said on Twitter that the vote "Reflects the victory of Palestinian diplomacy." There were 87 members who voted in favour of adopting the request; Israel, the United States and 24 other members voted against; and 53 abstained.

You're confusing the International Criminal Court (ICC) with International Court of Justice (ICJ). Here the UN general assembly has asked ICJ to give a legal opinion (not start a trial against Israel) and all UN members are automatically party to the court, including Israel.

In 2003, UNGA has asked for a legal opinion on Israel's wall in Palestinian territories. ICJ ruled that it had jurisdiction, whether Israel liked it or not.

Less than half voted in favor it seems, that's despite the ~56 Muslim countries automatic vote against Israel. The anti-Israel trend in the UN is decreasing.

How is 87 "less than half" of 164? It's more than half at 53 percent.

Your math is something…

The corpus is 193 members.

87 - 193 = 106

87 of 193 = 45%

106 of 193 = 55%

45% + 55%=100%

“Each of the 193 Member States of the United Nations has an equal vote.”

Sure, if you wordsmith it right, then some won't notice what you did there. (Include non participants in your vote tally)
