Why do you hate it and what are so you work at? My wife works for the doe and has been considering moving to yps for proximity.

tell her to stay in NYCDOE!! Lack of resources, unsupportive admin, lack of curriculum, tough neighborhood, admin never sides with you, no teacher's choice, it's bad. If I knew, I wouldn't have switched. I also switched for shorter commute.

That sucks, I want to move to yps too since I live here and I’m tired of commuting to castle hill in the Bronx everyday. Isn’t the pay higher than the DOE? That would make up for the lack of teachers choice since you still end up with more money if you still spent the $250 on materials for the class

Only work contract hours. Do the bare minimum. Let them fire her. Tell her to cover her ass and use her personal email or Google docs to write everything down. Do not use any school software or email that she does not have control of. They will delete anything and everything that she writes in a system that they have control over.

I always wondered how a teacher can do it in Yonkers. It’s rough city.

Attended YPS, my family worked for YPS, many friends did, and I did, briefly. Please do not get involved in this cabal in which the most powerful among the administration have not the slightest inclination to care for students and whether they learn. This ancient system of graft goes all the way to Albany and is locked down tight. Please do not join it. Anything is better. Go for Catholic or private schools in Westchester. But you will sorely regret entering YPS.

it's very dark. I have taught for a couple of years, in the city but i'm genuinely like what did I get myself into.

So I think Yonkers is very much like the city, where experiences are dependent on the school itself. Maybe see what the process is for changing schools within the district? I have a couple of friends in Yonkers and they seem to enjoy it for the most part.
