ceiling joists. I'm using a new/old work fan rated metal Raco [box](https://www.lowes.com/pd/RACO-1-Gang-Gray-Steel-New-Work-Old-Work-Standard-Ceiling-Fan-Ceiling-Electrical-Box/3128709) but the mount can't be fixed to the joist and be flush with the ceiling ... they're not really rated to hold a fan. I've found [this](https://www.lowes.com/pd/RACO-1-Gang-Silver-Steel-New-Work-Old-Work-Standard-Box-Extender-Ceiling-Electrical-Box/3190025) one here, but not sure it's even compatible or a preferable option to extend the framing
