My points are this:
- KRJ fought for more affordability in this project, and has now succeeded
- Teitelbaum "building a truck depot instead" was always a bluff meant to punish and troll KRJ, which worked to some degree in terms of media spin. A parking lot is a money losing project compared to building any housing
While in fact she might not keep her job -- there are many people who support her for taking a stand against displacement in Harlem. The YIMBYs are 100% right when they are fighting privileged boomers in Soho trying to /prevent/ affordable housing. When they fight a Harlem councilwoman seeking inclusion of /more/ affordable housing to preserve the historically Black & working class character of the neighborhood -- the story is much more nuanced.

Everybody on here bought Teitelbaum’s story that a NIMBY stopped housing and we got stuck with a truck depot. He was trolling her (and you) all along. He refused to negotiate with her in earnest and now is wrankling the Boro Pres and Atty Gen for his money-losing and fume-spewing truck depot tantrum. Now he realizes it’s time to stop the tantrum and come back to the table to build housing. Victory KRJ.

If the car has no plates it can also be reported to sanitation dept as an abandoned vehicle. They are slower to respond but if the car is there still a few days later w no plates then supposedly they will tow it. Also could consider calling city council office or community board.

When it’s in a dump it becomes so compressed that it doesn’t break down properly. It decomposes anaerobically, releasing methane, a potent greenhouse gas. Also composting is done locally whereas all the local landfills are full. So landfill waste needs to be trucked farther which requires lots of fuel, money and puts lots of wear and tear on roads. Last, composting produces fertile soil for reuse in gardens, parks and tree pits.

Zoning in suburbs and towns often restricts building size to single family detached houses. Even in NYC there are some areas like this. Whats left has other zoning restrictions that limit size, bulk, etc and deter housing production

bike lanes welcome and needed! A citi bike dock that takes 2 parking spaces adds parking for 20 bikes. It's the only way to keep adding people to the city -- there's not any room for more people to drive around here. The city was laid out long before cars and is best experienced without one

A highrise of affordable units is literally illegal to build in almost all of NY state so I dont think "capitalism" is to blame.

It’s not explicitly a rule pertaining to placard abuse, just making loading zones a more legally entrenched use case for street space.
