If you can swing it, DMHC has a program with the local hotels that allow you to get discount hotel rooms in the area. Made the early morning appointments there way more manageable.

This is what you want. Smuggs has condos ranging from studio to multi bedroom (I was in one at Christmas that slept 11), full kitchens, and most have some sort of outside space.

This is the most important comment. Avoid anything with “gap” in the name or any roads that say trucks can’t pass. Those are signs of steep and winding roads that can be hard to pass on good days.

A note about Route 7 (the main road to Middlebury) - each town is in charge of their own snow removal, so if it snows don’t be surprised if it’s a weird adventure of totally clear and treacherous. I’ve yet to find a rhyme or reason, but it’s good to be aware.

Many of the warming shelters are going to be open beyond usual capacity this weekend. Some are breaking out extra cots to put in places not usually designated bedrooms. The list of official shelters can be found here. Transportation is also available.

Some schools have announced that they’re also opening up as emergency warming shelters, but I haven’t been able to identify a full list.

Cold weather housing is in effect. This means that if someone calls 211 without adequate housing, there may be options for housing in motels paid for through emergency funds (as available).

I would love a commuter rail between counties that runs at work commute times. When the NYC train opened, I looked to see if I could take it to Middlebury but the timing is a nonstarter.

Of course!! When possible, my primary has been referring me out of UVM. I’m happy to share any intel!

My doctor referred me to the cardio team at Timberlane (link here) and they were great. Got in quickly, they had Saturday hours, and the test results were up in MyChart so it’s all synchronized.

As others said, I was seen by Dartmouth who were able to do an initial work up and rule a ton out while I waited to get in to the headache team. Dartmouth has some technology no one else in New England has, which is cool.

I finally got into UVM for a video appointment because I am seeing an ophthalmologist and he personally reached out. If you can get your foot in the door through a sub specialty, that may also help.

Good to know! My only experience with them happened to be while my (now husband) was at UVM, so it was easier to deal with it in person. But if phone is an option, that’s awesome!

If you’re in the Burlington area, I highly recommend going to UVM Medical Center and talking to their Financial Assistance Program. They can help get you through the insurance process in the least painful way possible and find options that actually work.

Something not yet listed - a magnetic windshield cover if he’s bringing a car. Those first mornings are ROUGH after it’s snowed and not having to dig out your windshield because you can just pull off the cover helps.
