I divide my time between Boston and north central MA and Russo's was conveniently located for the trip either way. I know this isn't too helpful for most Bostonians but Idylwilde Farm in Acton is a bit of a mini-Russo's. Not the variety, for sure, but a similar feeling of, "Wow, I got all this nice quality stuff for only $XX." Russo's was truly a bargain considering what you got for your money. And their Christmas trees....

That’s probably a better way to start. The telescope(s) will probably be higher power for more spectacular views and you don’t have to fiddle around getting the scope aimed and tracking correctly while your kids shift from foot to foot then start complaining that it’s too cold.

I agree with your assessment of the restaurant scene, “fine, unremarkable.” I’ve had lots of good, even very good, meals in Worcester but not a single one stands out in my memory. You can definitely get great beer, though.

Transportation is great if you have a car, parking is rarely a hassle. I gave up on trying to bike in Worcester very quickly after moving there (lived in Tatnuck). There’s plenty to do for just about every interest. The art museum is a gem. After five years in Worcester I gave up on it and I now live near nearby. I get there pretty frequently but I go to Boston more often.

If you like to chill with books, the Worcester Public Library can’t be beat. You probably won’t bother on a day trip but if you move here you should check it out.

Sorry you had to experience that, it’s bad enough just having to go there, let alone see that. A month ago I went there bc I had symptoms that suggested a detached retina. Arrived about 8:45 pm, got triaged, then waited…and waited…and waited…until 6:30 am when I left and went into Mass Eye and Ear in Boston Got checked out, told I was ok, just a minor issue. In and out in 2-1/2 hours after waiting ~45 minutes, seeing a nurse, a more technical specialist, then a doctor who gave me the most thorough eye exam I’ve ever had. They need to remove “emergency” from the sign at Lake Ave.
