I used to be better about lyrics, learning an instrument I’ve admittedly gotten worse at really comprehending lyrics. Rap that isn’t a problem for me with but other music I tend to just hear pitches from singers and like half of a sentence. It takes an embarrassing amount of effort to think past the individual line of lyrics that’s being currently performed to me.

I was always super interested in music so i kinda can’t relate to this on some level, but when I got the internet as a kid I listened to yahoo music radio of bands I liked and genre radios and discovered a lot of stuff that way. I suspect you can do the same with Spotify playlists and pandora radio to get an idea.

What do you want your musical taste to say about you? That’s the strange thing, I used to think it meant a lot about me then I realized it just means I like a lot of stuff once I stepped out of my elitism box

You’re right but this is a general sub and you’re gonna get a lot of dead brains here. Music is part of culture and cultural context is different everywhere, and if you hear something from a foreign culture that sounds familiar its because it’s been directly influenced by your culture or you’re misinformed by your cultural context.
