Is the check engine light on? If it’s not, then it’s probably not throwing emission codes. If you want to investigate further you can buy a sub $20 OBD plug in from Amazon that hooks up to your phone and see if there are any codes present. I think autozone will check your codes for free too.

All these comments are stupid and marginally wrong. Register your car. Inspect it. Fail inspection for emission? Clear sticker til you can pay to get it fixed. Fail for mechanical? Don’t fucking drive it if it’s unsafe.

An expired inspection sticker is a hundred something bucks ticket. No registration is a tow and a court summons for a misdemeanor.

Either way, before you go to small claims or whatever, I’d reach out and contact their corporate office first. I had an issue with them in the past, and the corporate office way actually really helpful, and the next day they mailed a refund out to me. Your results may vary.

No. Shops are required to run OBD diagnostics on your car if it’s under 20 years old by law, there isn’t leeway given if it fails emissions tests.

However, if you’re in a bind and don’t have the money to fix it right away, if it fails, ask the shop for a clear sticker. Some may offer it to you, some may fail you and not mention it, but a clear sticker will give you the option to have it temporarily inspected for 90 days while you get the emissions issue fixed. This is only for emissions problem though, if it fails for safety, they won’t give you one until the issue is fixed.
