Agreed, service standards are awful. They often talk about frequencies but it’s always for at like 8-9:30am.

Getting rid of the useless people who sit in the huts at the entrance and do absolutely nothing. They don’t provide security, they don’t stop fare evasion, they don’t provide information. They just exist. I think they might open and close the exterior doors of the station.

Correct. They are spending a couple million to avoid losing ten grand. And keep a couple of blokes employed.

I don’t know why they can’t just put one fare machine behind the gate and stencil “exit fare” on it.

Maybe the city could fix the horrific pavement conditions so that it is safe to ride a bike?

I would just ask them to transfer your lease to another unit. Perhaps they will chip in for movers.

It angers me too. There is an obvious middle ground in enforcement. I agree that fare jumping shouldn’t give people a criminal record, huge fines, or jail time. But it can’t be ignored. So hit fare jumpers with ejection and small fines. It would stop if you were escorted off metro and can’t get where you are going.

MPD should have their patrol officers actually do policing instead of sitting under overpasses and dicking around on their phones.

It’s the perfect amount of time to collect your bags, Metro to Rosslyn, change to Silver line, and recheck bags at IAD. The Metro portion of the trip is an hour and fifteen min or so.

Average rents are higher than DC in a dozen metro areas, including LA, Seattle, Denver, Miami, Boston, NYC, and SF. Orlando, Salt Lake, Phoenix, and Atlanta are closing in fast. That doesn’t make rent cheap or affordable. But DC has not experienced the same skyrocketing rental rates as other cities (yet).

Average rent in Cleveland and St. Louis is over $1550. They have seen 14% year over year increases. I’m sure there are select properties that rent less than a grand. But prices are skyrocketing everywhere.

Actually, DC rental rates are below those in other comparable cities. Even places like Miami, Atlanta, and Phoenix are at or above average rent in DC. That doesn’t mean it’s cheap. It means other places have increased more than DC. Nationwide the trend of private equity-owned housing and cheap lending have resulted in massive increases. DC’s relatively low increase is a result of large rental housing stock and a market with fixed housing reimbursement (military, government on assignment, corporate).

You’d be hard pressed to find a $1000 1BR anywhere in the United States. DC rents are actually below other major cities, particularly if you incorporate inner ring suburbs.

They have had many outages in the past three years, including some that lasted DAYS. I switched to Starry the moment it was offered in my building.

The encampment should never have been allowed to form. A humane, ordered clearing of the encampment is needed. It appears that DC is offering help to everyone, but uptake is slow.

Back in the day, you were taxed based on how much road frontage you had. So the incentive was to build thin, deep lots. Also without cars the rowhome increased density and thus the distance required to travel.

The hideously bad road pavement conditions don’t help. People serve to avoid destroying their car in an 8 inch pit, which is understandable. Meanwhile that road is useless for cyclists.

Yet MPD does squat about violent and property crime either.

Any Goodwill in inner ring suburbs has high end suits and slacks. Lots of well dressed dudes retire or die out there, I guess.
