This is the Counter-Earth hypothesis. Wikipedia has a nice section on how we would be able to detect any such planet.

And according to Marvel Comics cannon, the High Evolutionary built Counter-Earth, but placed it out of phase in time with the rest of the universe so it would be undetectable. 😄

Yep. We can also see the effects of dark matter through observations of gravitational lensing. There's definitely a lot of non-visible mass out there.

Some people clearly know it's ridiculous, but push it for political and financial purposes. Most of the rest seem to really believe it.

Before I added the emoji, I think I was getting downvoted because people thought I was seriously complaining about the 'war on Christmas.' It's really sad that we've gotten to the point that we can't assume such statements are sarcastic.

Because the gravitational effects of dark matter can be seen more locally.

For example, the rotational velocities of stars within spinning galaxies don't match the gravitational force that should be generated by the visible matter within those galaxies. To produce those velocities there must be a lot of unseen mass within those galaxies. Mass that is beyond the visible universe wouldn't increase the centripetal force within those galaxies.

Similarly we need unseen mass to account for the amount of curvature that we observe in instances of gravitational lensing. Such mass would need to be between us and the light sources, not beyond those light sources.
