Once you have an address, go online and get an ID NYC card. It's a city ID and it gives you lots of great perks like free one year memberships at museums, zoo's and a bunch of other great stuff. Check out a partial list below:

When I first moved to NYC, a cab driver told me about it and was really enthusiastic about me getting it. So now I'm paying it forward.

But beware, it doesn't work as ID to buy alcohol or get into a bar (although there are several banks and credit unions that accept them when opening an account).
