Yeah, I’ve worked in the grocery business for 20+ years doing everything from stocking shelves to building planograms to sales analysis. If I’ve ever seen a store with stuff in the back it was sitting on a pallet waiting to be stocked and nobody was going to be able to locate it until that happened.

Some does go bad, but it’s actually a very small amount. Mid single digits for perishable, a fraction of that for shelf-stable. There’s not as much product on shelves as you think, relative to the number of people buying it. So you might see only a couple of people buying a particular product in the store while you’re there, but that’s happening constantly throughout the week.
One thing to know, is that in most stores there’s not product “in the back”. What you see on the shelf is what they have until the next truck comes, so they have to keep it stocked. That’s also why when everyone in a 2 mile radius decides they need toilet paper at the same time, it runs out in a hurry.

Yeah in Virginia you have to get emissions once a year and safety every other year. And the safety inspections are no joke.

The newsworthiness of the season 1 murder depends on how famous the White Lotus chain is in that fictional world. But for season 2, yeah, an American multi-millionaire dying while a boat full of dead old money Italians floated nearby, and the “how the hell did that happen?” mystery that resulted would be international news.

There’s a bunch of “no right turn on red… on school days” signs in my neighborhood, and I’m actually really curious how dialed in the cops are to the school schedule.

This city, man. No fucking wonder we can’t solve the big problems when things like “put in stop signs” and “pick up the recycling every week” stump us.

Fort Avenue is the one they refer to as “downtown”, I believe. But I’m saying that a bad experience during Volo basketball would have had to be at Canton.
Edit: I have been informed this is incorrect.

I agree. This is a great example of how we need to focus less on how to get to 290 murders in 2023, and more on how to get to 150 murders by 2033. (Those are arbitrary numbers, but you get the idea). Smarter people than me are going to have to come up with ideas here, but I think it starts with keeping kids in school and getting them educated. The children that are at risk of committing murders when they’re 16 and 17 need to be engaged when they’re 6 and 7.
One thing that’s frustrating to me is that nearly everyone would agree with the statement that Baltimore City is actively failing large portions of its youth, but when the inevitable consequences of that flare up in a major way, we’re like “they’re 17! They should know better.”

It does, but I’m pretty sure the owner of that left it by the Papa John’s dumpster hoping DPW would pick it up with the garbage.

Reply to ELI5: Why does Southpark seem to be immune to cancel culture? by WhoDknee
South Park has never really been my cup of tea, but I think the big reason is, it’s funny and it’s clearly satirical. They’ve also built up a lot of goodwill with different factions because they’ve ‘offended’ everyone over the years, so in a weird way it’s seen as operating in good faith.
I also think it’s worth noting that most comedians or comedy acts that have gotten ‘cancelled’ have happened when they’ve veered too far away from “funny jokes” and towards “mean spirited attacks”.
