God that book was stupid, I worked out the 'twist' four pages in, and the culprit right after the first murder, and I never guess any endings as I actively try not to.

I absolutely love this book and reread it periodically. Magic, pure magic. The long, hot summer, the real, cruel issues of childhood, the community, the mystery. It's fantastic.

I remember when I came across this book in the library as a 14 year old. I sat down on the floor and just read and read. One of those first sentences of the book when you just know - this is going to be something huge.
