Assuming you survive the heart-stopping moments of anxiety during the show, the final manages to mix a heart-rending moment with a bitter-sweet ending (especially due to what we know about future events the characters wouldn't know at the time). Subsequent events would weigh heavily on all the decisions made by the characters at the end (and make it even more poignant as time passes).

It ended on a blue balls revelation, but, I agree, still watch it.
Wayne ended with a satisfactory unsatisfactory ending, if you choose it that way / are prepared to make up the rest for yourself. It was,obviously, meant to continue, though, and there have been attempts to drum up the enthusiasm to do so. I doubt it ever will though, especially given the actors are a good deal older now. Worth watching as well.
