Likely because land prices are insane. If someone will pay it and no one in the family wants it, it's worth big money, especially close to town

I really question if farms that grow corn or soybeans can fail. Land prices suggest it's not likely.

You're acting like no one would take up farming if farms failed.
Now apply the same logic to any other business. No jc Penny's, no clothes.

To be fair, 1 billion dollars is a fairly small amount.
