Don't feel too bad, I also am not a fan of Pom Poko. I think it's the only Ghibli film with an environmental message that felt like it was trying to preach instead of focusing on a good story.

Reply to What are some horror movies that enjoy critical acclaim beyond the genre (i.e., are considered to be great movies overall, not just respected by horror fans)? by FeatheredVentilator
Haven't seen Don't Look Now mentioned yet. Although I personally barely count it as a horror film, it has often been listed as among one of the best films ever made. It hit 127th on Sight & Sound's 2012 poll for example.

Stanley Kubrick went from directing war epics and heavy film noirs to pretty effortlessly shifting into black comedies with Lolita and Dr. Strangelove.
