I certainly don't have plans drawn up for all the intricacies of what goes into to housing a population, but here's 2 things I'd like to be true. Housing as a human right, I don't think individuals should be paying for a safe place to call home. And a teacher should have easier access to home ownership than a stock broker.

I sincerely appreciate you wanting to help, but I'm actually doing fine. You're right that most of the rules make sense, but I don't think that necessarily makes them good rules. And I would still rather not play the game, but that's not an option.

You're just describing the standards, and actually making some points about how they're arbitrary (different depending on who you ask and where you are). So it doesn't really negate my point.

Paying cash for a house is just about impossible for the average person. Which means most everybody will need to use a bank. The difference between not qualifying for the bank's (arbitrary) standards for a loan and "not being allowed" seems more pedantic than meaningful.

Gives them an excuse to raise rates with all the labor they hire for a couple days. Get goodwill from getting the power back on (even if it shouldn't have gone out). And the way a lot of them run, they get extra money to build new things but nothing to fix or maintain.

It's all a game with bad rules everyone is being forced to play.

Expensive in the short term. Cost effective in the long term. But they can fix the power outage and use that as an excuse to raise rates every year. Utilities, like healthcare, should not be a for profit business.

That's the problem with private utilities, they're incentivised to let things fail.

I find it a little ridiculous that power outages are such a common thing around winter storms. You'd think the electrical grid would be built to withstand the normal climate it's being built in. This can't be an impossible problem to solve.

Personally, I would probably side with beavers over snowmobilers just about every time. This is sad.

Charity is just a way to allow people to buy good publicity. I'm glad the soup kitchen got money, but I'd rather the money/resources already be there for the people that need it, instead of waiting for Richie Rich to need a distraction from major layoffs.
