I would honestly explore that basement wall to absolutely make sure there isn’t a device there that your wife may be sensitive to.

Not too sure tbh. It just seemed too coincidental that the sister happened to leave the door open despite the rules being constantly drilled into them. Also wouldn’t one of the parents want to stay home to make sure something like this doesn’t happen?

OP stay in the closet. Don’t give in to the temptation. Wait it out and then demand answers from your parents. I have a feeling this was no coincidence that everyone but you left the house.
