Reply to BIFL (ish) car tires in US? by Representative_Bad57
I’m a big proponent of BIFL however longevity comes at the cost of stickiness and therefore braking distances/traction.
Buyer beware :)

Solovair or Thursday boot for this money. You can always ask @ r/goodyearwelt for shoes that are high quality and repairable!

Reply to Shoes like Vans that don't suck? by ClarkAlmighty
My girlfriend bought me some Adidas Stan Smith Skateboarding (suede with rubber toe cap).
After 6.5 years of LOTS of use they’ve finally started to break. The sole is separating from the shoe.
I can’t speak for the normal or recycled Stan smiths but the Skateboarding ones have been brilliant! They also came with the best insoles that I’ve regularly swapped into other shoes when wearing smarter or less comfortable shoes for longer periods (though those insoles are a bit sticky and take some getting used to).

Reply to ELI5: Why does Apple have a different charger type for its phone to other manufacturers? by rrfe
Every accessory sold to use the lightning connector (including charging cables) is copy-written by Apple. This means every manufacturer to sell a cable has to give apple $4 PER item they sell using the connector.
Apple makes an enormous amount of money just licensing the lightning port.
