The Raimi Spider-Man films were clearly made with a true passion for comics. They echo the dynamic storytelling that makes comics fun. Most MCU movies just don't do this. Into The Spider-verse was a movie that felt immensely refreshing to me, because it quite simply felt like the immersive cinematic equivalent of a vividly-illustrated graphic novel.

Absolutely pumped for Chicken Run 2. Aardman never strikes out. And Netflix has been a goldmine for animated movies.

I'm cautiously optimistic about the idea of a Rocketeer 2. I loved the pulpy tone of the original, and hopefully they'll preserve that (including using practical effects). Retro sci-fi action is hard to come by these days, so this could have potential if they don't water it down too much.

The Fabelmans felt like a bit of a drag to me in terms of plot, but the last five minutes were the best ending scene I've seen in a movie in years. I don't normally remember movie dialogue but I can recall most of what David Lynch's character said to Sammy. Such memorable scripting, and I can't unsee the whole "horizon in the middle" thing.

A great cartoon example of this is the Haunted House episode of Samurai Jack. Jack is "killed" and taken to the spirit realm where he faces off against a demon. He must defeat the demon in battle in order to win his life back. He does this successfully, and frees an entire haunted house from a dark curse in the process.

The TV show Pushing Daisies might fit your bill. The protagonist has to lie about taking/preserving lives often, due to the fact that he has a magical power to wake the dead at the cost of another life. The protagonist magically brings his deceased girlfriend back from the dead, but takes another life in the process, and must lie to hide this secret. Furthermore, the girl must adopt a secret identity and prevent her parental figures from knowing that she has been resurrected.

I watched the original West Side Story with headphones last year and it astounded me. I felt like I was right there with the characters, with music swelling around me.

A lot of Studio Ghibli movies are incredible with headphones too. Princes Mononoke comes to mind.

Also, Umbrellas of Cherbourg has a truly haunting score that sounds great on any immersive sound system.
