An article I read this morning on Accuweather said the current snowpack is greater than what they typically see in April at the end of the season. It seems to me that as long as they can hold onto it e.g. we don't get some weird warming spell that melts it all, they should be good for this year.

The news of the recordbreaking snow pack in the Sierras has been interesting to follow. I understand now how the whole Donner party could have been stranded.

This is great news! They sound like poplars, then. I live in the north Georgia mountains on 15 acres, 13 of them heavily wooded. This is likely my forever home. I'd love to add some to the forest here. It would be exciting to see them grow!

the only thing that worries me about this article is that I am not likely to live long enough to see any of these new trees grow to match the beautiful specimens pictured in the article.

Most understatedly accurate statement in the history of mankind. That phrase was seared into my memory that day.

Are you even allowed to do that? I know that some western states prevent you from storing rainwater runoff because it "belongs" in the aquifers or some such nonsense.
