Maybe because their kids won't sleep jacked up on sugar or caffeine from the soda? It's difficult enough to get kids to sleep normally.

You're not, illnesses like colds etc are caused by viruses that you catch from other people. In winter time, viruses circulate more because people spend more time indoors because of the weather and it's easier to spread a virus indoors(lack of ventilation etc).

Reply to eli5: Calorie Deficit by OnlyBoss_01
You can get an online calculator of how many calories your body uses up everyday, just Google search it. You then read the packs of food you buy or do a search of the food you eat on Google and there should be a calorie amount on them. You want to aim for a 250-500 calories deficit a day from what your body uses up to what to eat. 1lb of fat = a 3500 calorie deficit.

Reply to ELI5 why cancer is a dangerous disease by MRJ20043102
It's because cancer cells break off of the original cancer and then spread throughout the body. This causes growths in vital organs like the brain or liver or lungs etc and will cause them to fail as they grow and you die. Usually, doctors will check the lymph nodes closest to the original cancer as lymph nodes filter bacteria/infection and broken off cancer cells as they pass through them. If you have cancer in the lymph nodes closest to the original cancer site then you can tell that some cells have broken off and started to spread throughout the body.
Leukemia is a cancer of the body's blood forming tissue, it causes an overproduction of white blood cells.
