The average person with a spare room is a terrible alternative to trained professionals in a workplace setting caring for homeless people. A lot of homeless people have other issues that we are not equipped to handle and fucking around with people who need help because you have a spare room can cause way more harm than good.

Just moved here from Sacramento. There’s no comparison at all. Tent cities line the highways there. Unless you’re wealthy, chances are you drive by dozens of homeless people every single day. It’s heartbreaking and a huge reason why we moved out (also because we can’t afford it and we don’t want to be in a tent city under I-80).

Minute clinic at CVS is the shit for real. When I was traveling out of network and had an ear infection, I went in to a minute clinic. They were like “thank god you came in because this would have put you in the hospital if you waited” 😬
But yeah they’re really nice there! If PP is booked, I’d give them a shot

I’m from California and spent 29 years of my life there, only time I saw a celebrity was on movie sets. My third week living in Rhode Island I run into Richard Jenkins in the bread aisle at freakin Dave’s.

I’m so sorry. Poverty is traumatic, sudden disability is traumatic, you’re both going through quite a lot. You sound like a real nice guy. It’s totally understandable to slip up, especially if you didn’t have to worry about stuff like this previously. You’re not a loser. I grew up with two disabled parents in poverty and my mom was this wonderful angel of a woman who spent all her time taking care of other people, and that’s what everyone remembers about her. Her art, her company, her jokes. Love goes a long long way.
Over the last couple years I have become progressively more disabled myself, and I was so scared that I would be alone. I met someone so compassionate and loving, and I’m really happy now despite my disabilities. My partner is my rock, he helps me all the time without even thinking about it, anticipated needs, and loves me unconditionally, as I do him. But we both fuck up too sometimes in ways that affect the other person. He broke something kind of expensive a couple months ago and thought I was going to be really upset, but when I saw the look on his face, I couldn’t be mad at all. He’s worth a million expensive things I can’t even remember. I’m sure she understands and doesn’t see you as a loser at all. You’re probably her hero. A soda isn’t going to change that. ❤️

Reply to 401 Love: Why is Rhode Island so gosh darn awesome? What's your favorite part? by YodaHead
I’ve lived in the north west of England, Northern California and here. Rhode Island is like the perfect blend of the two. Plus people here are kind and helpful, but not overly nice. I appreciate that, coming from a very “all smiles but heck off” hometown. Better sense of community.
