God that’s a bummer of a seafood menu. It lacks the pizzazz and creativity I love to see in seafood places. Maybe the food is going to be hella good but that all looks like basic steakhouse stuff. And the prices!! $48 for a lobster roll, damn.
I love the seafood restaurants that aren’t afraid to serve weird shit. Give us more of those. Skate wings and fish collars and the like.

My SO and I had our first date here, years ago. The bartender was new and nearly stole my license because it was out of state and they thought it was "fake" and apparently the bartender and the manager needed to hold my license hostage for half an hour while they looked for a tree or something to deem it real. I was so embarrassed and told my date, some random from Tinder, he was free to leave as 10 minutes turned into 15 to 20 to 30. He stayed, and eventually my license was given back with no apology, nothing. Just an explanation about the search for The Mysterious Connecticut Tree. Anyway, that guy and I are still together 8 years later.
City Tap was a typical messy loud college bar but it'll always hold a special place in my heart. RIP you beautiful bastard bar. I'm gonna try and go one last time with my new PA license and see if I get carded.

Yeah, once. My SO got something but I couldn't find any designs I liked or any artists that really jumped out at me.
It's sort of the same: security is more lax (idk what it is about the Philly convention but they have the meanest security of any tat convention I've been to). Way less artists. The WW convention center is basically a high school gym. But it's much less intimidating so it might be easier to navigate if it's your first time.

I've been going to the tattoo convention for years at this point. It's one of the largest of all the Villain Arts conventions and their longest running. It attracts a lot of solid artists.
You pay a ticket price to get in (either one day or a 3-day pass). Don't bring a big bag, large food items, or water bottles. The security team there are huge assholes and will make you toss anything. Small snacks, like granola bars, can get through.
Eat before your tattoo! Eat before your tattoo!!!
It gets stupid hot, loud, and crowded in the convention center. I bring shorts to wear inside. You don't want to overheat.
There will be rows and rows of artists. A lot will have openings. Just walk the aisles and find someone who's style you like. They will tell you the price upfront. It varies between artist how much a piece will cost, so take all the time you need. Some can take you immediately, others might have a few people ahead. Friday/Saturday are the best days, by Sunday most artists will be booked.
Feel free to ask if you got any more questions.

Oh now you're just showing off! ha.
I liked Why Fish Don't Exist. I went into it blind, not knowing who David Starr Jordon was. Seemed like a decent fella so I was a bit blindsided by the twist of >!surprise! it's eugenics!!<. But I vaguely remember when it got a little too author-y so I agree with you there.
Shadow Divers sounds interesting and I've heard great (terrible, awful) things about Empire of Pain. I would say I'll pick them up, but I have so many books on my TBR that I'm all booked up (hahaha) this year, literally.
I really want to read American Prometheus. I'm just throwing that out there.

I could and should do that but...we've already complained to our landlords about a dog before lol. Before this girl moved into the unit below us, there was a girl who lived there who also had a dog and would leave the dog alone from 6:30pm until 8:00am the next morning (she was a night nurse) and that dog would also scream, wail, bark, howl, and cry, for every single second its owner was gone. It was an incredibly anxious dog with mental problems that really needed a yard and some kids, not hours cooped up in an apartment. She eventually did something to the dog to get it to stop when she went to work, but it took at least 3 months.
So I'm worried about annoying our landlords and....I don't know, trying to push us out if we become a nuisance. I'll go the neighborly route and do face-to-face first and hope that sorts it out.

well well well, look at mr "has his life all put-together".

She's not like, legit legit. Just a girl in a rented apartment (which has a dog size restriction/pet fee) taking in dogs. There's no website or anything. Occasionally a post on NextDoor.
I'm never good in these situations. I'm debating leaving a note, or just waiting until she shows up and talking to her in person. I try to give people the benefit of the doubt and they don't know the dog is noisy but....don't leave other people's dogs unattended for 9 hours a day?
GreatWhiteRapper t1_j2rvrsl wrote
I'm really getting annoyed with the girl who lives in the unit below me, who started a "dogsitting" business where she just takes random people's dogs, brings them into her apartment, and then fucks off all day leaving the dog to whine, cry, and bark nonstop for hours and hours and hours and hours. This current pooch has been wailing nonstop since 6:30am and sounds like it's being gutted alive while crows pick at its innards. My noise-canceling headphones work fine but....wtf, just take care of the dog.
Sad about Ken Block. SO and I would watch his gymkhana videos together.
Ugh, work. Ugh, foggy moist weather. What a day.

Reply to Ok, so how was this year for you? by RoverTheMonster
Not great, not terrible. I didn’t make any moves forward in my job, my dad has been sick and in and out of the hospital for the better part of half a year, but I had some ups too. Visited two new places in 2022: Virginia Beach as well as my first ever international trip to Ireland. While I don’t love my job I made a better effort to know my coworkers, which I think improved my likability. I got into photography as a hobby and bettered my cooking skills.
So it was alright and I’m going into 2023 with as positive a mood as I can, considering this exact scenario outside is my mortal enemy and I hate it.
I have also still managed to avoid Covid. Keeping that good energy into the new year.

Yeah the ending was weird and even after multiple playthroughs I’m a little ??
Hence why it’s a remake tho. They’re going in a different direction. But I never played the OG so I get why some folks are peeved at it. I wish they redid the ending of Reunion to match but 🤷🏻♀️

I fell into the silly trap of thinking I was gonna finally get my life together during this week. So far, it has not happened. Finished Crisis Core: Reunion (me during the final scene: oho, oh boy. I am ready to get my heart shrapnel'ed into a million pieces.) and immediately started replaying FF7: Remake. Which I guess has become my comfort game.
I did write out my resolutions though. The typical stuff. Lose weight, cook more dishes out of my cookbooks. Journal, order something from Small World Seafood, maybe try fishing as a hobby. And of course, read more. I read six books in 2022. Six. That's pathetic. I read more in 2021 but for whatever reason I just fizzle out and stop finishing books in August. I'm reading Salmon Wars right now and I'm only maybe a dozen pages in but I like it.
Cooking a cioppino for New Year's Eve eve since we're going for a nice dinner tomorrow night. I'm skipping the fennel, because fennel is butt. Gonna throw in halibut, clams, mussels, scallops, and I'm debating snow crab or not. Serving shrimp cocktail and crusty bread on the side.
Edit: also a fun fact about me; when I eat eggs, which is fairly often, the eggs in white shells make me nauseous but the eggs in brown shells do not. I don't know why this happens.

I (use) to go to Kellians so much back when I was fully work from home. I still go a lot but then I started getting fat and also going back to the office.
The Lucky Well is nice. Either location in spring garden or UC. It’s not really a bar but tends to be quiet during the day.
I’ve heard great things about Cherry St Tavern but haven’t been myself.

I'm gonna check out Roy Pitz/Liquid Brewing at some point now. We've passed by when going to devour unholy amounts of meat at Lucky Well. And still need to hit up Triple Bottom. That section of Spring Garden is really coming along nicely with the food/drink options. Still not really sure what "neighborhood" it is though. Callowhill?
