Make sure you are getting good quality fabric. Durable linen sheets will be thick, tightly woven, & use longer linen fibers.

I've never had sheets wear out or break like that, even the cheapest set I ever bought lasted 4 years. So I wonder how you are washing them? If you have a top loading washer your sheets may be getting wrapped around those awful center agitators and ripping. You may need to try a different gentler setting or just wash them by hand.

Never ever put linen or cotton sheets in a dryer either, hang them to dry if you want them to last. Dryers use heat and heat destroys all types of fabric, but is especially brutal to natural fibers.

Choppers are absolutely not BIFL. I have one of these because it's cheap enough to try out, I kind of regret the purchase.

The chopper is ok, but the ONLY benefit is a faster prep time, & the ability to cut waffle fries since I have no professional chef training. My partner cut himself accidentally setting up the blades so take from that what you will. When it gets dull it will go in the trash.

I think buying good quality knives and spending the time to learn and practice knife skills is the only BIFL solution.

I am jealous of the better fabric quality in men's clothing. My Dad is 63, he has t shirts from high school that he still wears & they don't look particularly faded or anything. That's literally an impossible goal for me because women's shirts in a fitted cut are always made with inferior cotton. Just why? 😭

Make your clothes last by owning a small functional wardrobe of high quality clothing & washing it all by hand.

Research the correct methods of washing for your fabric type. Cold water is best for most things, but hot is appropriate for whites, especially towels. Know what you can & can't wring out, & make sure you never use standard detergent on wool, cashmere, mohair, or silk, they are protein fibers that need special care.

Invest in a clothesline or a big drying rack, & have something ventilated that you can put "flat dry" items on. The dying machine is the biggest clothes killer, the heat literally destroys fabric.

Never use fabric softener either. It ruins the fibers and causes a buildup that makes clothes reek and feel floppy and heavy.

I was under the impression these were flash floods which happen suddenly. I've been hearing about a lot of flash flooding and mudslides in Northern California recently.

They were on their way to drop the child off at school so I assumed that schools would have been closed if a flood was known about.

This is so sad. The mother, father, and son were stranded in their SUV which was filling with water and threatening to float away.

These were not stupid people who decided to do something risky, they had no other choice than to exit the unsafe vehicle.

The article says SUV was found later upside down filled with muddy water. They all 3 would have drowned.

Tampa & Orlando truly are the most nightmarishly bad places as far as transportation goes. It's hell. Pure hell.

The busses are dangerous due to the large amount of drunk & sketchy people, there's absolutely no trains, the Ybor trolly has a laughably limited route, I4 is the most deadly road in the country (as far as I'm aware), & the drink drivers are out 24/7. Not to mention all the people driving high, ragingly angry, or just making the most stupid decisions possible behind the wheel.

Somebody just deleted a comment saying she would be hard to see, so here's what I was going to respond with for context.

She was riding a bright green adult sized tricycle with a tall flag on the back. Definitely not low & difficult to see .

This killing is local to me. Michelle Allen was a well known & beloved person in the homeless community. She really loved the stray cats & was always taking care of them. This article even has a photo of her.
