The owners/managers were cited for sexual assault numerous times and were otherwise abusive to their staff. Good riddance, burn in hell, et cetera.

I have fond memories of crushing cups of mashed potatoes and gravy from the one on Nansemond when I was a baby. It is now [checks notes] a dentist's office!

Absolutely. I work in relocations and no matter how well I can describe an area and dial in the specific needs of my clients to match a certain area of Richmond, nothing beats getting shoes to pavement in a neighborhood and seeing how it feels to you.

Why are those always so relentlessly mediocre? Like, how can so many different establishments take a seemingly winning concept and make every incarnation suck so hard?

Adding Wax Moon to the list, because they're pretty great people too.

I help relocate folks to the area, and I thought that The Gallery Midtown was a decent combination of great location with an affordable monthly rate. Some of their units are a little dated, but I didn't come across anything too egregious. You have excellent walkability throughout the Museum District and Carytown, easy commute up Grove Avenue to campus, and a handful of decent amenities included on-site.

Yeah, literally was thinking Forest Hill just to the East as well. Rentals are remarkably reasonable there, and it literally abuts the south bank of the James and that incredible park system. Museum District still has affordable apartments on a single income if you look around for a bit. Good luck!

The bus services are mostly adequate within the city limits, taking into account delays, hours of operation, an almost disgraceful dearth of shelters and benches at stops, and for what I'm certain will be a confusing reorientation of routes over the next couple of years. Better than nothing, and for the immediate future, fare-free, so yay.
Definitely would have to pad out the transportation experience with some ride share service. If you're able, procure a bicycle or moped or something if a car isn't an option.

This sounds like a terrible idea for Carytown. Keep that fake upscale chain garbage out in Brandermill and Short Pump.

Okay, so Short Pump is Tyson's Corner, and West Chesterfield is Leesburg. Miserable hellscapes of chain stores and the same shoddily-constructed apartment blocs ad nauseum.
