It’s a myth that your brain can do 2 complex things at once - it can’t it just dips your concentration in and out of both the tasks. Often if I pull out of a junction I have to rewind my podcasts a bit as I’ve been concentrating on the traffic and not my podcast. You might get on with the medium but only when not distracted by other tasks.

Maybe go to the library first as there’s not so much of a cash upfront cost so if you don’t read as much as you hope to, to start with you won’t feel guilty which can make a spiral of avoidance start.
I use the do not disturb function on my iPhone for reading now and I also try and leave it in another room so I have to physically get up to get it.
Start with books that are light and easy to get into. I’m reading Hilary Mantel ‘the mirror and the light’ at the moment and it’s a bit of a slog for me. I’ve already read 7 books this year including a Donna Tartt for context so even for me (I would describe myself as a reader and that reading gets me into flow) some books just don’t hit the right moment to bring out the positives of reading.
Most of all - have fun, don’t be hard on yourself and reading is for everyone and everything counts. You read a newspaper article - congrats, you read some dialogue on assassins creed - brilliant or read a few chapters of a book - amazing.
But also if reading isn’t your vibe then that’s fine too!

True although the ghost writer of 1st case didn’t exactly sell themselves to me 😂
I’ve picked up Janice Hallett The Appeal at the library today for after the Harlan book. I’m hoping it’ll be good too. The blurb has interested me anyway.

That’s hilarious - especially as I’m potty training my 3 year old at the moment 😂

I’m reading Win at the moment. At least the chapter length in this book allows an idea to be developed 😂

Thanks all - some interesting things to explore. I’ve just started a Harlan Coben book and thus far it’s much better then James Patterson 😂

Accurate! 😂 I might suggest him to my partner. He struggles with reading but I think he would like these books and it’s positive to have books for different reading abilities and types. I’m glad I gave it a go - after all I’m trying to come outside of my reading comfort zone, so far I think mission accomplished

Haha. I suppose it’s what sells, easy books to read for pleasure. I do like to be intellectually challenged a bit when I read 😂 any other crime authors you think I should give a try?

Ah amazing. I didn’t even realise he had a ghost writer. But it shows because the book was garbage 😂 I usually read historical fiction Eg Sharon Kay penmann, Margaret George or fantasy Eg Robin Hobb so that might explain why I felt like I was missing the genius of these books 😂

Use the focus function on your phone to help limit distractions. iOS has one for reading 🥰
