Ah, I'm sure you're right. I do almost exclusively tuck my shirts into my pants, so the tag is always showcased and feels like more of a bummer than I'd usually be fussy about. Good question! I don't think it's dirt, but it's discolored. I'm positive that it's not intentionally manufactured this way, and it doesn't come off when wiped.
