Everyone who I know with a series s loves them. Just keep in mind you won't be getting the same discounts on games, as they are digital only.

If you get the switch, be sure to get a screen protector and a case. As long as it's on the dock through the TV you should be fine. Portable mode + a 5 year old sounds like a recipe for a busted console.
