It's extremely hard to rehome them, most get put down at shelters. I grew up with one and they're great dogs, but they're one of the harder breeds to train and they get dangerous when people neglect to raise them right. If you take the time to train them, which this asshole probably didn't, they are amazing companions and a guarantee no one will break into your house.

You don't really need one. You should probably consider a cheap bike though, it's very useful around here

Thought I'd add that just because it's a snow emergency route, that doesn't mean it will be safe to travel. It just means that they will try to clear it a little bit faster. I traveled on a snow emergency route to go 5 miles home from work last February. It took 45 minutes, in first gear the whole time, sliding along through 4 inches of snow.

The ridges are some of the only places in PA where you can walk for 4 hours and not see another human. The ANF is cool too, but nothing beats the view of the laurels at sunrise/sunset. I can't recommend backcountry camping up there enough, its seriously a life changing experience.
