Yeah, but who cares about long term, when we can make the magic bar bigger for this quarter than the last!

Problem is, once you get e ough corrupt people into power, they start changing the rules, so it's easier for them to stay in power, without actually needing to work for the people to earn votes.
As we're seeing in America, once enough political power has been accrued, you can corrupt the public's conscious to the point where they will vote for your party, regardless on what the party actually uses it's power for.

The Australian government has been deep in the pockets of coal and oil industries for years, so the point they've suffocated wind and solar development despite being literally the world's largest desert island.
They've also been really obtrusive about electric vehicles, and put bullshit rules in sce to try and block them, in a government act called "FFS".
No, really.

Cragside house in England has the same deal, but bit earlier in 1870, making it the worlds first power planet, and house with electricity.
Weird thinking about what it must been like to visit at the time, it would been like a Victorian version of Tony Stark's mansion.

Honestly, I disagree about being manipulated into it, despite all the malicious advice Chris was given, and the entire idea guys saga, all of Chris's worst decisions seem to be of their own creation.
They've been manipulated into all sorts of heinous shit, but Chris will somehow always find a way to one up it, usaly to their own detriment.

I had a cursory knowlage of Chris when that happened, and it really wasn't a suprise, but it was kind of "Oh fuck he actually did it".
I've watched some of Genos videos, and now it's like "HOLY FUCK, OF COURSE CHRIS ACTUALLY WENT THERE", there's more red flags than a CCP rally.

Interesting tidbit: the original Animal Farm animated movie was co-funded by the CIA.
Orwell was a socialist, but after seeing how the USSR went, he started writing about how people can twist the goals of communism, and turn it into an authoritatian hellscape.
