The Shape Of Punk That Never Came references the singer Dennis of Refused as well as Refused's most critically acclaimed album The Shape Of Punk To Come which itself was a play on The Shape Of Jazz To Come.

No Life by Slipknot mentions Cool J and Chuck D.

Most hip hop artists give lyrical mentions to other rappers. Kendric Lemar referencing Yeezy's first album on The Art Of Peer Pressure being just one example.

Sum 41 sang about "Maiden and Priest were the gods that we praised" on their debut single Fat Lip.

NOFX wrote a song about pop duo Teagan and Sara. I forget the name of it though.

Grimes sings about Bullet With Butterfly Wings and Stupid Girl on her song In The Dark. Those songs being by Smashing Pumpkins and Garbage.

One that's really famous in that country and has a rabid fan base.

Kim Kardashian would be swamped by paparazzi and her fans would just be taking mobile phone pictures, but she's no where near peak MJ in popularity. She's just pretty surgery in nice clothes, very nice clothes, but it's harder to care about someone whose only talent is making themselves look good because they're rich enough to effectively be able to focus on just that as a career.

Some boyband of which there's increasingly less support for that kind of fan base in western countries, but J pop and K pop artists would be a much bigger deal in South Korea and Japan, so may expect similar reactions over there. It's been a while since a boyband in the UK was a force to be reckoned with due to a legion of screaming teenage girls adoring them. Take That in early 90s England had probably the most rabid fan base since The Beatles.

As another poster mentioned, the Internet has diversified our tastes too much for such a cultural monolith to occur again. Something more then human would be needed for such hysteria again. Maybe a Black Friday sale, but that's a completely different kind of thing and not a person.

Beyonce is popular, but she's not MJ big. No one really is. Maybe Trump, but that's more like a cult following and a swindle, plus he's globally speaking way more loathed then he ever was respected (he's also not an artist in the musical sense, unless there's some Kid Rock duet in the works).

Spice by Spice Girls was the only album I owned until their second album Spice World. I got into Nirvana and the Chef Aid South Park album a year later, but by the time I started getting into rock music and weening off pop I was thirteen.

So at twelve the only albums I owned and listened to were the first two Spice Girls albums. I may have had some freebie compilation albums from Top Of The Pops magazine, but I can only remember one song from them and that was the Na Na Na No Sweat one.

My main thing at 11 was Power Rangers, 12 Spice Girls, 13 N64 and South Park, 14 onwards rock music.

Most iconic is probably Super Mario Bros. even if it is just World 1-1 that people remember.

My favourite and also highly iconic is The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time.

Final Fantasy VIII stood out for me more then VII, but that's probably due to the age I was when I played VIII. Also the opening cut scene for VIII is a thing of cinematic beauty that tied in heavily to how I remember the game and I think was also utilised in the TV adverts for the game.

As for games that make the soundtrack part of the gameplay, those dance mat games were massive, but Guitar Hero took things up a notch, however I'd struggle to recall any of the tracklisting for the first three Guitar Hero games bar Through The Fire And The Flames by Dragonforce.

Tallah's Matriphargy album is about an emotionally, psychologically and physically abused boy doing the unthinkable and murdering his own mother.

Korn have a lot of songs about parental neglect and a messed up childhood as Jonathan was raped by his neighbour who was friends with his parents and they wouldn't believe him. Their fourth album Issues and self titled first album seem to reference this the most. The song Daddy in particular is hair raising,

Room Of Angel from Silent Hill deals with the disdain for one's mother "the love you never gave, I give to you, You really don't deserve it".

Today and Disarm by Smashing Pumpkins are about Billy being sexually abused as a child.

So which garments are the anti homophobia ones? A quick browse just shows the text you copied, but not the item mentioned. I don't see anything referencing homosexuality apart from some rainbow colours on the other stuff. Is the t-shirt with GOLF in rainbow letters the item in question?

I expected something more interesting then a rainbow coloured logo.

Stick Song by Hey Duggie.

Amy Lee has a whole album of kids music inspired by her at the time toddler. Dream Too Much being the lead single.

Postman Pat Theme (the original one from thirty years ago).

Wipeout by The Surfaris

Most Disney songs, especially from Jungle Book and The Lion King. Frozen is also super popular. Oh and We Don't Talk About Bruno.

What Does A Fox Say by Ylvis.

Daddy Cool cover by Placebo.

That song by Fast Food Rockers.

Barbie Girl is really popular despite inappropriate lyrics.

Kids aren't too fussy. You could literally play them Child Prey by Dir En Grey and they'll start dancing if they're already used to hearing rock music.

Just avoid anything ominous sounding, long and progressive (most prog) or with loud sound effects like Blip by Sophie (my niece hated that one).

As a predominantly metal, rock and punk fan, people act suprised when I like the Russian pop duo tATu. I also like a few Britney and Katy Perry songs like Everytime and Cry About It Later. Oh and because they amuse me, E-Rotic with their cheesy innuendo filled euro dance.

Lil Mariko does the whole schizophrenic kawaii bimbo to aggreesive thing really well.

Little Big should also be more popular then they currently are.

Oh and Hello Kitty by Avril Lavine is a bop and isn't that much of a shock if you compare it to Girlfriend, but is obviously the seemingly opposite of Complicated.
