if one company in the us got access to AGI, every other tech company in the country will send all of their lobbyists to DC to either get AGI outlawed or force them to sell the code to prevent a monopoly.
frankly i think once a single company figures out AGI itll only lead to dozens of other companies following shortly after. if a dozen companies have AGI i dont see how it can remain something only a select few have. at least one of those companies will realize that its quicker profit just to sell the AI to other companies, governments, or the public.

the boomer generation is unaturally wealthy. millenials are poorer than our parents solely because of how much wealth the older generations are currently hoarding. on top of the elderly making one of our biggest segments of our population since a ton of children were born after WW2. also on top of science advancing at one of fastest rates in human history making it possible to start funding these crazy research projects or methods of increasing longevity.

a bar with attractive young waitresses/hosts that will sit down with drunk professional men and make them feel special while tricking them into paying to drink with them with shots/drinks usually 50%-100% over menu prices,

actually recent years are proving that we can actually entirely supply our planet using wind hydrothermal and solar energy. literally several nations this year had days or weeks where 100% of their energy was being supplied by renewables. China is desperate to become energy independent and in 2023 are set to build more solar panels than the entire rest of the world has in the last 10 years combined. they are doing that because they themselves believe that renewable energy can supply a huge chunk of their energy needs, and theyre literally supplying the world with like a quarter of all goods made annually. they believe they can become energy independent with solar panels still despite their massive industry.
another example, if the united states wanted to just a small 50km piece of land in nevada filled with solar panels could probably supply the entire united states with energy.

well i think scientists are creating a crazy amount of super tech materials (like graphene, etc). while im not sure if itll be crazy or anything, i feel like eventualy we'll figure out how to utilize some of these super materials could potentially revolutionize certain existing technologies or industries.

i want to see how quantum computer affects gaming. obviously they wont make gaming quantum computers but ive heard future computers might get like a quantum computer chip slot for their motherboard or something that could like help make the NPC's in your game more lifelike/reactive to your character, or affect random in game events or something like that, make game worlds more life like.

I know there’s another law similar to moores law specifically for solar panels.

Generally I heard there’s a rule that says the cost of solar panels is cut in half every 7ish years or so.

Reply to Will human intelligence fall? by Charming-Coconut-234
saying humans will lose intelligence is a misnomer, because even if people are "dumber" in that they dont know how to make fire or dont know how to make electricity work, we can find the information almost instantly, and read on how to do it/make it work in just a few minutes. information is more accessible than ever before and that accessibility replaces our need for us to store that intelligence in our own heads. as long as humans have the ability to learn still, which is a vital skill for humans to have, we wont lose any "intelligence". this is why we dont learn how to do much math anymore without a calculator, because using a calculator can get us the information we need and its more valuable to learn other aspects of math than specifically how to do one formula by hand.

It is in the interest of the rich to keep regular people maybe not employed but at least occupied/busy/happy. When the working class has a lot of free time and is upset at the system that’s when revolutions happen. And even if the rich have more resources, it’s a lose/lose situation when 90% of the population is rebelling against the top 5-10%. People need to be occupied with work or hobbies or something to keep them from realizing how unfairly their situation truly is.

one of best ways to contribute would be making your own changes to reduce waste or cut back. try not to replace your new phone for several years longer than you usually do, try and do what you can to get an electric car or try taking the bus/biking to work or school. do you have a large lawn? buy some goats instead of buying a large lawn mower. do what you can to get heat pumps and solar panels at your house, solar panels are expected to go down in price in 2023 since manufacturing capacity is expected to double in the US next year.

it is good to try and spread the word and educate people. peer presure is real and can be a good thing, the more people are trying to treat our planet well the more likely the holdouts will gradually start making changes too. explain small changes someone can make if you see them being wasteful or something. doing small things here and there might not help much but it establishes a pattern for other people to also follow.

also we are making progress on climate change. over the last year or two the popularity of electric vehicles and renewable energy has been skyrocketing. in 2023 china, one of worlds biggest pollutors, is expected to expand their solar capacity by 1/3, around 100 gw, which i believe i read is more solar panels than the rest of the world combined currently has (the us isnt expected to hit 50 gw solar until 2030 as comparison).

Not that im defending anything he does, but gates believes that its possible to avert a climate disaster while not requiring everyone to give up everything in return for it. ie it doesnt matter if he has a 66k sq foot house, if its powered by renewable resources, doesnt use excessive water or other pollutants. and i feel like his investments into renewable energy and fixing our climate cover his own potentially excessive energy use. hes invested a good couple billion into this and plans to invest billions more, and he wants of his money to be completely used up by around 10-15 years after he dies.

wouldnt it theoretically be possible for robots to travel that far, build up factories and teraform to modify it to humans, and use frozen human eggs and semen to create test tube babies? couldnt they also modify the genes of those babies to help them survive easier? and have lifelike possibly AI robots help raise the first generation of humans? like i agree sending humans that far away oesnt make much sense but i think it could be possible if robotics and/or AI was advanced enough. and it still close enough to recieve reports back to earth, so maybe we could send instructions back to the robots every decade or something and see how progress is going.
now teraforming worlds and building up cities would likely take a ton of time, so it might be centuries before the babies would be incubated. tho we could always send the eggs and semen after the initial building robots so the eggs and semen arent super old, idk how long frozen eggs and semen could potentially last.
