Actors are acting. To suggest that there is something so inherently different about gay actors that you can somehow “sniff” them out is is pretty offensive and silly actually. What about if a woman playing a mother is not actually a mother in real life? Would you think their ability to play one is amazing? Or an able bodied person such as Tom Cruise playing someone who no longer has the use of their legs, like in Born on the 4th of July? Or someone playing a person of a religion different to theirs?

Point of order, Bill Bixby did not play the Hulk. He played Bruce Banner and the first half of the transformation into Hulk, which was, of course, Lou Ferrigno. Which is the correct answer to your question.

My Beautiful Laundrette was one of his earlier films (mid 1980’s) and along with My Left Foot and Last of the Mohicans, showed his talent and range. I don’t think he’s ever given a bad performance.
