Hi I have been wanting to piece together the historical background of a WW2 story in my family's history and I don't know where to ask, especially since this is a serious sub so I am hesitant to start a thread.
I am from Hong Kong and this happened in either HK or in Guangdong before my dad/grandparents came to HK. All I've heard is this: During WW2 my grandfather was captured by the Japanese and he escaped and crossed the river in his escape by hiding underwater breathing through reeds.
I don't have a lot of connection to family, but this story fascinated me and I'd like to learn more about the specific background. I don't think my grandfather was a soldier/resistance fighter but I have read that Japanese would capture random civilians people either for torture or kill/ for forced labor / or to be sold as slaves.

Woodley Park location was terrible, Tysons was average but need to pick the right things
Haven't been to the Maryland one yet for dimsum but their dinner was good
I still try dimsum in the area for the spirit of science but that's about it

For a while now I just treat Yelp and IG as a brainstorming list, still need to vet through reviews because even at risk of sounding like an elitist, a lot of people don't really know what they're talking about.
I'm not a food critic but am very familiar on certain select genres. I often see places that I know are crap pop up on local influencer pages.
It's made worse because I personally know one local food influencer and the motivation was just to get free food.
What's a foodie anyway, people who like good tasting food?

Right, I saw that too. You're still gonna get punched the face first before the jacker realizes it's a manual, and potentially get harmed again for wasting time.

Might be cliche and romanticized but really is the people I meet, totally expanded my mind.
Met so many people who came to be journalists, NGO workers, involve in politics and also grassroot activists, it's inspiring to know people are coming and hustling daily with aspirations to "make the world a better place". Also humbling to meet many brilliant minds in ways different from my engineering STEM background, and to learn about the world through them.

This is me recently, just quickly Googled and it's within price range of my normal AirBnB targets.
AND, it's actually at a desirable location, the quality is known and has miscellaneous amenities, and it has free airport pickup which is another expense for abnb.
