The subway portion of the T is fine for getting around the core tourist parts of Boston (or you can just walk around - its a small city), but drive if you want to go to Salem or anywhere outside Boston. The commuter rail is a god damned fucking disaster and you're more likely to spend time sitting on the tracks than actually enjoying your trip.

These were super common in various WPI frats and apartments when I had friends going there 15+ years ago. Probably doesn't help if your timeframe is urgent but if you can look in the spring when the kids are leaving you might have better luck.

If you're not in the wedding party and not expected to be in serious photos I'd see if you can get away with a sports coat and dress pants. Suits kind of suck if you're not going to wear it often because body shapes change so if you wear it infrequently it can become a one time $500-1000+ purchase for a thing that won't fit you the next time you need to put it on two years later.
