Wow. 10:40 p.m. on any day of the week outside fishtown tavern is still going to have foot traffic. People are getting ballsy and desperate out there.

"suburban raised poverty larping fanboys" is the best description I've ever fucking heard used to describe these kids. Like, bro, you set a car on fire at a BLM protest a couple years ago but you literally don't even make eye contact with the dude asking for change at the light on Aramingo on the way back to your 1600 dollar studio apartment in Fishtown. Fuckin' crusaders, man. None of us poor folks asked for their help, but they insist on giving it because they lack any semblance of control over their office job.

Yes. I personally know someone who was jammed up on a felony charge. The case went on for so long that when the judge finally threw it out against the recommendation of the DA, the DA's office fought tooth and nail to go over the judge's head and re-file the charges. The guy left the court room all excited that it was over and his lawyer literally stopped him and said he's safe for now, but that it's pretty common for the DA's office to re-file charges like these. Couldn't believe it when I heard it.

Reply to Classic car ownership by [deleted]
I drive a classic daily. Insure it for an agreed-upon value for more than it’s worth and hope for the best. When I first got it, I got a car alarm put on, it fucked up my wiring so I hacked it out, and now I just keep my car clean, park it in gear, and hope for the best. I’ve thought about doing a kill switch but even those can be cut out in a couple minutes by experienced thieves.
The reality is… it’s an older car. Befriend all your local old heads, make friends with some of the hot rodders in the neighborhood, etc.
Hell, since glass can be hard to find, might even wanna consider leaving your doors unlocked.
No one cares about our shit as much as we care about our shit. If someone steals your old shit in this city, it’s probably an inside job (which is why you make good with everyone you can out here who shares similar hobbies).

Reply to comment by sunofapun in Bar recommendations for drinking alone tonight? South Philly by g0blinslayer
Second this. Fountain porter is my favorite bar to be in when it's cold outside and I'm drinking alone. It's dark but there are lights that feel warm when you're drunk, and I think they also have burgers and fries that people say are crazy. I'm pretty sure I've had one, but I was just drunk enough to remember the lights, but too drunk to remember the food.

You're not wrong, but aside from accounting for plow and truck sizes, you also have to account for snow displacement. So, can the plow truck PHYSICALLY fit? Sure. But plowing in an entire street of cars just so the ingress and egress is clear hurts more than it helps. There's a BIG difference between shoveling 2 feet of fresh untouched snow and a foot of hardened, packed death powder.

No worries. I want to clarify that I'm not his buddy or confidant or anything. Everything I've heard about it came from people who were close to him and the situation. But it's pretty easy to connect the dots from the outside looking in.

Shout that shit from the rooftops, friend. I wouldn't step foot in Foto Club even if they gave me an open tab. I may be an alcoholic, but I have morals.

Did time? Copped to it? Lmfao no. Homeboy wouldn't last a day up State Road.
He hired a big-money PR firm to do damage control for him and lawyered up to the teeth. Then he transferred as much of his wealth on paper as possible to minimize potential losses (Foto Club may be under new management, but he still profits from it and 100% hasn't sold any of it to anyone).
Dude has "copped" to nothing, and as far as I know, he hasn't even apologized. He's just sitting back enjoying the re-branding of Foto Club to a bunch of crusties who either don't know or don't care what they're financially supporting.
Edit: Also, hearing your "not running a taxi service" comment IS being too flippant about it. Guy got black out drunk, put someone who shouldn't have been on the back of his bike on the back of his bike (which is its own can of worms that I'm not going to discuss on the internet), and then crashed into a tractor-trailer, killing that person.
Then went into "protect the assets" mode and clung to as much of his money as he could — including the very club the employee of the wife he killed used to work at.
His community, his circle, his dick riding former friends all spoke pretty clearly about his actions, and his answer was as sterile as a corporation "vowing to do better."
Whether he's running a taxi service or a crust punk bar, nobody should be giving this dude a dime. We talk all this shit about community and morality in the Philly punk scene, but y'all couldn't even not support an unscrupulous philanderer. lmfao.
Fuck that dude, fuck his bar, and fuck people for giving a murderer a pass in exchange for what? The vegan taco truck in the backyard? A show venue?

A lot of the streets out here are simply too narrow for plows to get through.
My best advice is: shovel the snow anywhere the wind blows, get yourself two plastic chairs to put in your space as you're leaving, and then don't leave — just defend the spot with your life. Forever.
Jokes aside, it's an actual shit show out here when we get any shovel-able snow on the ground. Best thing to do is forget you have an automobile, eat the drugs you were smart enough to buy in advance of the storm, and then go sledding with everyone at the art museum steps.

Reply to comment by themightychris in Mayoral candidates stand in support of drag community - Philadelphia Gay News by diatriose
Excuse me, but are you kidding me? Dude, I LOVE drag shows specifically because of how raunchy and ridiculous they are. I, a straight dude, once walked into an impromptu drag show and within five minutes I was brought on stage to deep throat a fucking pretzel and twerk with a bunch of women. I volunteered for it. I did that shit with an open mind and an open throat and a genuine love of pretzels.
It was a hilariously good time and I had a blast.
If the drag shows you're going to AREN'T rowdy and ridiculous and inherently charged with latent sexual energy, you're going to the wrong drag shows, bud.
But that's my thing about this. It's so fucking weird to me that we're at a point where we're using children as the battleground. Why? Why sexualize ANYTHING for children, or politicize anything to their detriment? This is so wildly immature.
Drag shows are fun and beautiful and ridiculous, and they definitely should not be attended by children. The same way nobody under the age of 18 should be allowed in a hooters.
And far as outfits go, as a rational, normal adult, think about what drag outfits look like. If it was a cis white woman walking into a PTA meeting or coming onto a school bus as a school trip aid dressed in what your brain immediately thinks of as a typical drag outfit, you'd legit be like, "What the fuck, Jen? Go home with that shit..."
Not because Jen's not allowed to dress that way, but because these are fucking kids and you should have some common sense, you kook.
The conversation should be that simple, but we're so passed that. We're all sticking to our rigid beliefs and escalating these situations into something that makes literally no sense because we're so committed to being right about everything.
People on the left advocating for drag shows in elementary school are insane. People on the right advocating to ban LGBT events and drag shows statewide (like in TN), are insane. These are all actions, reactions, and escalations.
This consistent "fuck around and find out" loop we're all antagonistically living in has got to stop, because shit like this will KEEP HAPPENING in republican controlled states.
They'll keep saying shit like, "Oh, so you want drag performers reading to OUR CHILDREN? Okay, well, now we're going to do everything we can to make sure drag performers can't even perform in adult venues in OUR STATE."
Like, what did everyone expect was going to happen? That a bunch of weirdo republicans would take that sitting down?
It's like poking a bear with a stick and then complaining when the bear rips your guts out. Be smarter, more tactful, and more strategic. Especially in places where you're behind enemy lines LIKE THE FUCKING BIBLE BELT.
I am beyond frustrated here.
