These types of firms are also hired to insure companies complying with terms of their contracts for things like maximum hours, minimum wages, child labor; i.e. a whole host of things important to western companies buying their products.

Reply to comment by quaffi0 in TIL of the Battle of San Jacinto. Just six weeks after the Texans terrible loss at The Alamo in 1836. The Texans regrouped under Sam Houston, and surprised the Mexican forces and overwhelming defeated the Mexicans. The Texans had 11 soldiers killed and the Mexicans lost 650. by triviafrenzy
Houston didn't reign in his troops at the final stages of San Jacinto because of all the Texian troops put to the sword at the Alamo & the lesser known Battle of Goliad.

Reply to TIL until the early 1970s, funeral homes in the US doubled as ambulance services. If you were hurt or sick, you’d probably be transported to the hospital in a hearse. by LazeLinez
Lots of small towns it was same vehicle. Color other than black & they had a light could put up on the roof & siren under the hood. Grew up in small town Illinois & all the towns around we're that way.

Back in the day went to NO on business and host took me for "coffee". Definitely an acquired taste. Definitely needs milk to "soften" it.
